Registration Open for Rebreather Forum 3

Rebreathers represent some of the fastest-developing technology in recreational diving. As more and more divers adopt this technology, it becomes increasingly important to examine the state of rebreather use and develop protocols and recommendations to improve user safety.

From May 18-20, 2012, several industry leaders are gathering to do just that. Co-sponsored in part by DAN, PADI and the American Academy of Underwater Sciences (AAUS), the Rebreather Forum 3 will address major issues surrounding rebreather technology and its application to sport diving.

"We encourage every diver currently using rebreathers or considering using rebreathers to attend this program."

The three-day program will feature introductory presentations and exhibitions on Friday, with scientific and professional discussions following throughout Saturday and Sunday. Presenters scheduled to appear include rebreather specialists, experts, manufacturers, training and education leaders, scientists and dive safety researchers.

Goals for Rebreather Forum 3 include:

• Examining the state of recreational rebreather technology, including issues such as ventilator characteristics, carbon dioxide control, automation, warnings, bail-out systems, redundancy and backup systems


• Reviewing available data for accident analysis and avoidance


• Reviewing training and operational protocols


• Examine considerations for conducting extreme exposure dives

"As rebreather technology and use continue to increase at a rapid rate, it's important to stop and take a look at where we are with it," said Petar Denoble, DAN senior research director. "This forum will provide that overview and initiate discussions regarding advances in rebreather technology, protocols and safety."
